Open to entrepreneurs who are developing or expanding a for-profit business in order to accomplish social and/or environmental goals.
Entries can be submitted in one of two categories:
- Idea-phase firms - pre-revenue or less than 2 years from first revenue, not currently seeking professional investment.
-Venture-phase firms - pre-revenue or less than five years from first revenue, actively seeking professional investment.
- Important Dates
Business plan summaries must be submitted by October 12, 2011. Full business plans are due on February 6, 2012. The final Presentation round will take place on April 13, 2012.
- Competition Prizes
The top three teams in each category will divide $10,000 in prize money, and also receive picks from the competition's extensive in-kind service prize pool.
Though still expected to grow, the current value of the cash, in-kind, and investment prizes that will be awarded in this business plan competition is about $140,000.

To select business plans, the William James Foundation works with more than 500 reading judges, who are world-class experts in sustainable business.
Teams entering this business plan competition must pay a processing fee ($100 for Idea-Phase companies, $250 for Venture-Phase companies) to enter. This can be eliminated by applying for a WJF Scholarship, or reduced 50% if a member of the team falls under certain qualifications.
