Who's Eligible

Teams must include at least one undergraduate or graduate Harvard student who serves in a leadership role. The Challenge is mainly for new ideas, not funded ideas. 

Submitted proposals should address and provide a solution for one of the Challenge's five Global Issues: 

  • Clean water
  • Personal health
  • Education
  • Global health
  • Clean air
Important Dates

The deadline to submit proposals is March 20, 2012. On April 2, 2012, 10 finalists will be chosen to advance to the second stage of the competition. These teams will receive $5,000 to further develop their ideas. Finished proposals and accompanying prototypes or research are due on May 16, 2012. A Demo day will take place on May 17, 2012, at which time finalists will present their projects. 

Competition Prizes

A grand prize winner and up to three runners-up will be awarded a total of $100,000 to further their ideas. 

Other Info

The President’s Challenge is a university-wide initiative to develop entrepreneurial solutions to the world’s most important social problems. Sponsored by President Drew Faust, the challenge will give students access to expertise in the form of mentors and experience in the process of bringing great ideas to action.
