First Look West, US Department of Energy
- Who's Eligible
At least 50% of the team members must be students studying at accredited U.S. universities. Preference will be given to students in the Western Region: Alaska, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, American Samoa, and Guam.
The business plan must develop a technology that will have a demonstrable impact in the way energy is generated, distributed, converted or consumed.
- Important Dates
Applications are due on February 15, 2012. A panel of experts will then select the strongest submissions to advance to round 2. Advancing teams will present their business to a judging panel at a "Fast Pitch" competition. Several Fast Pitch competitions will take place throughout the region from March 21 - 25, 2012. Winners of the Fast Pitch competitions will move on to the final judging session, which will take place at California Institute of Technology on April 30 - March 1, 2012.

$200,000 in prizes will be awarded.

This regional competition is part of a larger, national clean energy business plan competition funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
