- United States residents, citizens, or legal aliens looking to turn their clean tech idea into a thriving business can apply. Teams must consist of one Team Leader and at least one other team member (two people total). All entries must meet one of the competition’s six clean technology category definitions and be a startup with less than $500,000 from outside funding (some exceptions apply).
- Important Dates
The deadline for submission of an executive summary is May 22, 2010. There is a fee of $199 for each member of a student team that reaches the semi-finals and $249 for each member of a professional team. Semi-finalist teams are chosen from the executive summaries and, near the end of the summer, those teams submit a full business plan and present their concept to a judging panel. The top team in each category is named a Finalist and goes on to the National Awards Gala in San Francisco on July 22, 2010 where the national winners are announced.
- Competition Prizes
Regional finalists receive a prize package worth $30,000 in cash and services. One regional winner receives an additional $20,000 in cash and services. Finally, one national winner receives a $250,000 prize package of investment and additional services.

The competition is looking at startups that have solid financial and technical scale-up plans within a five year horizon.
