All applications must fit one of the competion's six clean technology definitions:
- Air, Water, and Waste
- Energy Efficiency
- Green Building
- Renewable Energy
- Smart Power, Green Grid and Energy Storage
At least one team member must be a United States resident, citizen, or legal alien. Entries must be startups with less than $1,000,000 from private third party funding and less than $5,000,000 from all other sources.
- Important Dates
Teams who submit applications by the early bird deadline on April 3, 2012 will have a reduced entry free. The final entry deadline is May 8, 2012. Semifinalists will be announced on May 23, 2012, and will begin the Cleantech Open training program in June 2012. Final versions of the business worksheets must be submitted by September 10, 2012. The national finalists will be announced on October 12, following regional judging competitions. Finalists will present at the Global Forum on November 13 & 14, 2012, after which winners will be selected.
- Competition Prizes
Each regional finalist will receive a prize package worth $20,000 in cash and services. A team from each region will also be selected as a sustainability winner and receive an additional $10,000 in cash and services, and one team from each region will receive $10,000 as the regional winner.
One national winner will receive a grand prize package worth up to $250,000 in investment and additional services.
- Other Info
Semi-finalists must attend either the East Cost Academy in Boston or the National Academy in San Jose in order to continue on in the competition. The is a $475 semifinalist fee cover the expenses associated with these events.
