UNC Charlotte's Charlotte Research Institute
- Who's Eligible
Open to ventures headquartered in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, as well as college students enrolled in schools in the same geographical area. Companies should be early-stage with a scaleable business concept that has high growth potential.
The competition consists of six categories:
- New Energy and High Technology
- IT and Informatics
- Life Sciences & Biotechnology
- Consumer Products and Services
- Student Ventures
- Social Enterprises
- Important Dates
Opportunity Assessment Applications are due on February 29th, 2012. Semi-finals will take place on March 20, 2012. Finalists will be announced following this event, and one-on-one mentoring will take place on March 26 - April 19, 2012. The Charlotte Venture Challenge Finals will take place on April 19, 2012.

Prize money totals will top $100,000 this year.

Formerly known as Five Ventures, the Charlotte Venture Challenge has been renamed to encompass a broader mission: to establish a nationally significant competition that accelerates the growth of scalable new ventures in the Charlotte region and builds recognition of Charlotte as an innovation center.
